Wow, I can’t believe it has been over 4 months. How time flies when you’re having fun. And we are having fun. Don’t get me wrong, there are some things that are not so fun, like trying to get our residency.
We have filled out all the required paperwork (and then some), been to the ministry office 3 times, we actually have had it approved, and then they want more paperwork. It is frustrating to be sure, but that is just the way it is here. The rules change, and all of a sudden what was is no longer. I am not fretting over it, it will happen, eventually. My new motto is – ” It is what it is”. Life is good here, so I am just going with the flow.
We have been spending a lot of time getting to know people and checking out the local “scene”. We have been introduced to a phrase here – “Gringo midnight”. Essentially, gringos (that is us) go out for the evening, whether it is a concert, a musical act at a bar, or just out for dinner, and go home by 9:30 pm. That is Gringo midnight. Actually, I am getting used to it. It is nice to go out early, have a full night out, and be home before 11 pm. We have, on occasion been out past midnight, but that is a rare thing here. It helps that it gets dark at 6:30 every night, all year-long.
We have also been going on some pretty awesome hikes out in the countryside around the city. We are on a mailing list for a Hiking Group that goes out every Saturday. We meet at a specific location in town, and take the city bus out to the countryside and hike (usually uphill, since we are in the Andes mountains). The scenery is beautiful, the hike is good, and the people are great. And of course we always end the hike with lunch. What’s a hike without food? It is a fun way to meet new people, and get some good fresh air and exercise. I love the Saturday hikes.
Until next time…
